meditations balls

1999; plaster, plastic, 16 x 7 x 7cm

The packing of two spiritual spheres imitates a consumer product.
The castings are made of the fruits of the tree “Maclura pomifera”. The products of this tree have a peculiar surface with patterns resembling the human brain, enabling the onlooker to associate the objects with meditation and spiritual thoughts. The Korean characters on top of the box signify “care for the hands” as we know it from cosmetics products. In this case the effect of the product exceeds the benefits for the skin by the fact the two objects - body and soul – are as one.
The meditation balls are painted pink, a colour that indicates a state of happiness, like looking through rose-tinted glasses.
